Clonlara’s executive director has a hopeful message for rich learning experiences in the 2020-21 school year. Her video and a transcript of her remarks are included below.
Hello, my name is Chandra Montgomery Nicol, and I’m the executive director at Clonlara. I’m here to welcome you to the 20–21 school year.
I know we are in a current context of a global pandemic, and it is a rare moment in history that we’re all facing together. I know there are questions on your minds: Will we be OK? Will my child be OK? Will the learning journey be OK? Can I even do this? I want you to know that our staff shares your concerns and understands them. Clonlara has a 53-year history of working with people who had those same concerns when they started.
I know that there are additional issues. Our campus school hasn’t started yet for in-person learning, and neither our off-campus or our online students have the same kinds of opportunities, activities, and community resources that they typically have. But I want you to know that we will guide you to have an enriching educational experience, even though a few things may not be possible.
There are so many different reasons that you have chosen Clonlara. There are families who have always just wanted the freedom and flexibility of our programs. And there are others who find themselves looking for homeschooling or distance learning options because of the pandemic. And, still, others who have decided that they want a lifestyle change because of the pandemic, and this is an opportunity to try an educational approach that maybe they considered in the past.
For all of you, Clonlara is here with all of our experience and know-how, ready to help you have a confident school year. You still may have some worries but give yourselves a break. It’s a tough time, and it’s OK not to have all of the answers. At Clonlara, we trust the learning process. We trust you, parents, and we trust the students to learn. We’ve been doing this a long time.
You can look forward to many of the things that we have to offer. Even in this time of physical distancing, Clonlara can be a bridge or a way to connect with other students. We’re increasing our number of clubs that we offer for students, and we’re continually finding ways to connect our global learning community.
We want you to have hope. We want you to have faith in us. We are available to you and looking forward to answering your questions and setting you on a rich educational path this year.
Thank you very much for joining Clonlara, and don’t hesitate to ask us anything you need to know.
What are your hopes for the new school year? Please share them with us.
